Seed Libraries
Many people grow some of their own food, be it in their gardens, allotments or in pots on a balcony or windowsill. This is to be celebrated due to its many benefits including helping growers to save money on healthy groceries, positive physical and mental health impacts and environmental benefits included reduced food packaging waste and food miles.
To help encourage even more people to do grow fresh produce, there are several seed libraries across Middlesbrough, where local people are all welcome to take for free, or donate, seeds to grow their own produce.
Three seed libraries have recently been relaunched in Middlesbrough, at Central Library, Marton Hub/Library and Hemlington Hub/Library). Good Food Middlesbrough, overseen by Middlesbrough Environmental City, has very happily played a part in helping to encourage the setting up of three further seed libraries, at the Acklam, Grove Hill and Thorntree Hubs/Libraries.
These seed libraries rely on seed donations in order to continue to be available to everyone. If you have seeds to donate, please drop them into one of the seed libraries. We are also happy to help; you are welcome to contact us at info@menvcityorg.uk.
